Special Programs
In addition to the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, the Sonoma County Housing Authority operates several other programs to assist members of the community with special needs. Learn more about each program from the menu below.
Special Programs
Mainstream Voucher Program
The Mainstream Choice Voucher Program is for non-elderly, disabled people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, transitioning out of institutional or other segregated settings or at risk of institutionalization.
Family Unification Program
The Family Unification Program (FUP) is a federal housing program aimed at keeping homeless families safely together and preventing homelessness among young adults.
Family Self-Sufficiency Program
The Family Self Sufficiency Program combines case management, education, and training with rental assistance to aid families in becoming financially independent.
Shelter Plus Care Program
The Shelter Plus Care Program serves homeless persons with disabilities such as serious mental illness and/or AIDS and related diseases.
Foster Youth to Independence Initiative
The Foster Youth to Independence initiative makes rental assistance available to Public Housing Authorities in partnership with Public Child Welfare Agencies.
Homeownership Program
The Homeownership Program is an option for households who are current participants of SCHA’s Section 8 rental assistance to use their subsidy towards a mortgage instead of rent.
