November 8, 2022, General Election, Campaign Guide: Introduction to Candidate Statements and Estimated Costs
New This Year -- All Statements Must Be Printed in English & Spanish
Due to the fact that Sonoma County was designated a bilingual county by the federal government at the end of 2021, all candidate Statements of Qualifications published in the County Voter Information Guide are required to be in both English and Spanish. As a result, the less expensive "English only" category has been removed.
Overview
Candidates running for office in the November 8, 2022, General Election have, the option of paying to have a statement describing their background, education, and qualifications for office printed in either the County Voter Information Guide or the State Voter Information Guide. This statement is formally called a Statement of Qualifications. The type of office dictates which Guide the Statement is printed in.
- County Voter Information Guide: Candidates for U.S. Representative, State Senator, Member of the State Assembly, County Superintendent of Schools, local school governing boards, municipal offices (City/Town Mayor, City/Town Councilmember, etc.), and all special district boards.
- State Voter Information Guide: Candidates for U.S. Senator, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, Member of the State Board of Equalization, State Superintendent of Public Instruction
Below are the ESTIMATED costs for candidates to print statements in the County Voter Information Guide. Unless otherwise stated or by the governing board or elections official, assume all payments are the responsibility of the candidate and must be filed prior to completing the Declaration of Candidacy. For information about printing statements in the State Voter Information Guide, visit the Candidate Statements page of the Secretary of State's website.
Note: The following nonpartisan offices are not listed because a candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the June 7, 2022, Statewide Direct Primary Election, and therefore already won election to that office: Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector; County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor; District Attorney; Sheriff-Coroner; and County Supervisor 2nd and 5th Districts.
