Voting System

Overview

Beginning in 2014, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors took steps to support the Sonoma County Registrar of Voter’s commitment to address the risks posed by an outdated, aging voting system, and prepare to replace it. In 2017, Sonoma County Registrar of Voters replaced the outdated voting system with a newer paper ballot system that is more effective, secure, and responsive to voter needs. The Registrar of Voters Office began using the new system in March of 2019.

About the Voting System

Sonoma County uses the Dominion Voting Systems paper ballot optical scan voting system. This voting system has been certified for use in California by the Secretary of State. Using paper ballots, voters fill in ovals next to their choice.

Ballots are transported to the secure, Sonoma County Ballot Counting Room, where they are tabulated on the Dominion ImageCast Central central count scanner. With this system, you can have confidence that your vote is counted accurately and reliably.
