Watch: July 7 Town Hall on Drought Emergency
The second installment of virtual drought town halls took place on Thursday, July 7 at 4 p.m. The monthly series provides information and answers questions about the drought and its impacts on Sonoma County. Town halls are being held on the first Thursday of each month through the fall.
On April 27, 2021 the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors declared a local emergency due to drought conditions. Since then, a third consecutive year of below-average rainfall in the Russian River watershed has left the region’s two primary water storage reservoirs, Lake Sonoma and Lake Mendocino, near historic lows. The first five months of 2022 have been the second-driest in Sonoma County in 128 years, with rainfall more than 20 inches below normal.
Thursday's virtual town hall featured current drought conditions, the latest long-range weather forecast, and the impact of the drought on Russian River water quality, recreation and county regional parks.

Also, please join the County of Sonoma Energy and Sustainability Division for a free workshop on what you can do to save water during drought, including information on the restrictions and prohibitions, as well as available rebates, financing, and programs that can help everyone achieve water savings. Current drought status and water supply conditions will also be discussed.

COVID-19 vaccines for children 6 months to 4 years of age are available through primary care providers and health centers.
Beginning Wednesday, July 13, West County Health Center will hold a vaccine clinic every other week for all people ages 6 months and older. The clinic is located at the Gravenstein Community Health Center at 652 Petaluma Ave., Sebastopol. It will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. on July 13 and 27; Aug. 10 and 24; and Sep. 7.

All persons with COVID-19 symptoms, regardless of vaccination status or previous infection, should self-isolate and test as soon as possible. Knowing one is infected early during self-isolation enables earlier access to treatment options, particularly for those who may be at risk for severe illness.
County health officials continue to encourage facial coverings in indoor settings, and particularly during summer gatherings and events.
Also, with fire season underway, it is strongly recommended that residents subscribe to SoCoAlert and Nixle warning systems to receive alerts through landline calls, telephone devices for the deaf, cell phone text messages or verbal messages and email.
