For Immediate Release
Main Street bridge in Monte Rio closed temporarily to ensure public safety following winter storm damage
SANTA ROSA, CA | May 01, 2023
The Sonoma County Department of Public Infrastructure today announced the temporary closure to vehicle traffic of the Main Street bridge over Dutch Bill Creek in Monte Rio after the bridge sustained critical damage in recent winter storms. One lane of the road had remained open with traffic control, but department officials determined that a full temporary closure to vehicles is necessary to ensure public safety following reports of drivers not observing the lane closure.
The bridge is closed at the intersection of Bohemian Highway and Main Street, just south of the Monte Rio bridge that spans the Russian River. Officials are asking the public to use Fir Road as an alternate route from Main Street to Bohemian Highway.
The department plans to reopen the bridge following the installation of temporary traffic signal lights. All sidewalks in the area and on the bridge will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists during the temporary closure to vehicles.
