Total Compensation
Total compensation includes:
- Direct wage compensation
- County paid contributions to health insurance
- County paid retirement costs, including pension obligation bonds
- All other County-paid costs tied to salary and/or benefits, if provided, including:
- Deferred compensation
- Social security
- Premium pays
- Vacations
- Holidays
- Standby
- Call back
- All allowances including but not limited to educational and uniform benefits.
The County assesses how its total compensation package compares to the market by conducting targeted surveys of appropriate comparators.
Salary Information
Salary information is available for all steps in the County's salary range of A step through I step. The difference between each step is approximately 2.5%.
Salary Step data can be searched by job classification, or filtered by unit designation to find information about job classes within a specific bargaining or unrepresented unit.
Please note: Some positions are based on a flat rate and do not have a salary scale. The A Step rate applies for all flat rate positions.

Retirement Formulas and Contributions
Retirement Formulas and Contributions are administered by Sonoma County Employees' Retirement Association.
