Sonoma County Supervisor James Gore named President of National Association of Counties
Sonoma County District 4 Supervisor James Gore this week was named president of the National Association of Counties, an advocacy organization founded in 1935 to represent the priorities of county governments in the United States. Supervisor Gore was sworn in on July 15 during the association’s Annual Business Meeting in Hillsborough County, Fla., after receiving broad, bipartisan support from elected leaders representing 3,069 rural, urban and suburban counties nationwide. Evacuation exercise planned in Sea Ranch on July 21
The Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management, in partnership with The Sea Ranch Association and other community preparedness groups, will be holding an evacuation exercise on Sunday, July 21 for the Sea Ranch community. Registrar of Voters invites public to attend Open House on August 1
The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office will be hosting an Open House on Aug. 1, as announced today by Deva Marie Proto, Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters. Fitch Ratings upgrades Sonoma County’s credit rating on Pension Obligation Bonds to AA+
International credit rating firm Fitch Ratings has upgraded Sonoma County’s pension obligation bonds to AA+ from AA, a sign of increasing fiscal stability. Fitch Ratings also affirmed Sonoma County’s Issuer Default Rating at AA+ and provided a “Stable” ratings outlook. Read full story
Home Depot Pays $750,000 To Settle California Gift Card Law Violations
District Attorney Carla Rodriguez announced today that her office, in conjunction with the District Attorneys of the Counties of Los Angeles, Contra Costa and Ventura, settled a civil enforcement action against Home Depot U.S.A., Inc (“Home Depot”) for violations of California’s Gift Card Law. The Stipulated Judgment entered on July 2, 2024, by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David S. Cunningham III, provides that the company will pay $750,000 in civil penalties, fees, and restitution. Read full story

Sonoma County Health Officer extends heat advisory through Friday
In response to the National Weather Service’s extension of the Excessive Heat Warning for the North Bay interior mountains and a Heat Advisory for the North Bay interior valleys, Sonoma County Health Officer Dr. Tanya Phares has extended the countywide Heat Advisory in place since Tuesday, July 2 to Friday, July 12.
