Office of Traffic Safety Awards $537,121 Grant to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office for Specialized DUI Prosecution Team

Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support a specialized prosecution team that handles alcohol- and drug-impaired driving cases. The grant program runs through September 2025. Read full story

Sonoma County purchases seven all-electric transit buses in continued shift toward zero-emission public transportation

The Board of Supervisors today approved the purchase of seven battery electric transit buses to replace natural gas-powered buses in the current fleet that have exceeded their 12-year minimum service life required by the Federal Transit Administration. The seven new buses are scheduled for delivery in November 2026 and will be deployed on Sonoma County Transit’s main intercity routes that operate between Monte Rio, Santa Rosa and Sonoma (Routes 20 and 30) and between Petaluma, Santa Rosa and Cloverdale (Routes 44/48 and 60). Sonoma County continues investment in resilient infrastructure with new portable solar-powered EV chargers

The Board of Supervisors today authorized a funding agreement with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for $791,200 in federal funds to purchase six portable solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations and an emergency back-up power trailer as part of Sonoma County’s Equitable Energy Resilience and Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project. The funding will be matched with $595,403 from the County’s Climate Resilience Fund for a project total of $1,386,603. Read full story

Sonoma County Health Officer issues order requiring health care facility staff to wear masks

Given the rising risk of respiratory virus-related illnesses, such as COVID and flu, Sonoma County’s Interim Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith has issued an order requiring health care personnel to mask when in patient care areas. The health order will be in effect throughout the remaining respiratory virus season, from Nov. 18 through April 30. Read full story

Burn permits required in Sonoma County

The burn permit suspension in Sonoma County will be lifted on Friday, Nov. 1 at 8 a.m. by CalFire, and permits will be required to burn. Anyone possessing current and valid agriculture and residential burn permits can resume burning on permissible burn days. Burn piles or broadcast burns must be inspected by CalFire, when located in the State Responsibility Area, or your local Fire District in the Local Responsibility, and/or Air Quality District prior to burning until the end of the peak fire season per the Sonoma County Fire Safety Ordinance.
