Third Annual Women Honoring Women

County of Sonoma Commission on the Status of Women Announces Third Annual "Women Honoring Women" Awards in conjunction with Women's History Month. On March 24 2013, the Commission hosted this third annual women’s appreciation luncheon and award ceremony, Women Honoring Women. The event was held at Sally Tomatoes Restaurant in Rohnert Park, and featured a special keynote presentation by Detective Christopher Mahurin of the Santa Rosa Police Department that focused on Human Trafficking in Sonoma County.
Helen Rudee, who was the first woman elected to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, and was involved in the formation of the Commission on the Status of Women received an Honorary Award.
Additional award recipients included:
- Chris Castillo, Executive Director of Verity Rape Crisis & Trauma Center
- Dana Bryant, Executive Director and Founder of Crossing the Jordan, who brought a handful of young women Verity had helped escape the clutches of human trafficking
- Professor Lynn Cominsky, PhD, Chari of the Physics and Astronomy Department of Sonoma State University
100% of the proceeds from the ticket sales was donated to the Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation for a scholarship for adults returning to education that was established by the Commission.
