Supervisors, County Clerk honor democracy on National Voter Registration Day
SANTA ROSA, CA | September 16, 2022
Civic-minded people and organizations all across the United States will be taking part in National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Deva Marie Proto, County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters, invites Sonoma County residents to join the Registrar of Voters Office and the Board of Supervisors in this nonpartisan effort to highlight the importance of participating in democracy by encouraging all eligible Sonoma County residents to register to vote.
To be eligible to register to vote in California, one must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on or before Election Day, and not in prison for the conviction of a felony.
For those who meet the above requirements, it is easier than ever to register to vote in California. Online registration began in Sonoma County in 2012 and has been growing in popularity every year since. Simply visit RegisterToVote.ca.gov and fill out the application. Traditional paper registration is still available. Physical forms are available at many public and government offices including city halls, post office, and the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office at 435 Fiscal Drive in Santa Rosa. You may also request a paper registration form be mailed to you by calling (707) 565-6800.
The last day to register to vote and receive a regular ballot in the upcoming Nov. 8 General Election is Oct. 24. Voters who have recently moved or changed their name should re-register. Residents who miss the deadline still have the option to conditionally register, also known as same-day registration, and vote in person up until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Please contact the Registrar of Voters Office for further details.
