For Immediate Release
Standard deadline to register to vote in March Presidential Primary Election is February 20
SANTA ROSA, CA | February 16, 2024
The standard deadline to register to vote in the upcoming March 5, Presidential Primary Election, is February 20, Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Deva Marie Proto reminded residents. However, eligible voters who miss this deadline still have the option to “conditionally register and vote” in person through Election Day at the Registrar of Voters office or any vote center.
For a list and map of all vote centers and official ballot drop boxes, including addresses and dates/times they will be open, visit the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters homepage and click on the list of Official Ballot Drop Boxes and Vote Centers link under the “March 2024 Presidential Primary Election” heading.
To be eligible to register to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age or older on Election Day, and not in prison for the conviction of a felony. You can check to see if you are registered using the California Secretary of State’s My Voter Status lookup tool or by calling our office. If your name, residence address, or political party preference is different from how you are currently registered, you should re-register.
There are two primary ways to register to vote:
- Fill out and submit the California Secretary of State’s Online Voter Registration form by 11:59 p.m. on February 20
- Obtain a paper registration form at any post office or public library in Sonoma County (or at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office) and either:
- Send it in the mail with a postmark of February 20 or earlier
- Drop it off inside the Registrar of Voters Office by 5 p.m. on February 20
Notice: No drive-thru drop box at Registrar of Voters Office
