Sonoma County Historical Records Commission opens nominations for annual recognition awards

Santa Rosa, CA | August 25, 2022

The Sonoma County Historical Records Commission is now accepting nominations for its 2022 Collections and Archives Recognition Awards.

The awards recognize the contributions of local individuals, groups and agencies that promote history and cultural preservation by collecting and preserving historical records.

A complete description of the criteria for the awards and the nomination form may be found at: sonomacounty.ca.gov/Historical-Records-Commission. Nominations are due by Jan. 12, 2023. The 2022 awards will be presented at the Sonoma County Historical Society’s annual meeting on March 12, 2023 at the Flamingo Resort in Santa Rosa.

Last year, the Commission bestowed four awards to a diverse group of individuals and organizations including:

  • Judy Gustafson, honored for more than 10 years of dedicated volunteer service to the Cotati Historical Society.
  • The Sonoma Valley Historical Society, recognized for its ongoing work to document and preserve the valley’s historical record.
  • The Santa Rosa High School Foundation, awarded for its ongoing work with the Santa Rosa High School Museum to document the history of that nearly 150-year-old institution.
  • The Special Collections Archive of the Sonoma State University Library and the Office of Cultural Resource Studies of Caltrans District 4, awarded for their partnership in rescuing and preserving historical records relating to highway construction in Sonoma County from the early 1940s through the late 1960s.
