Nov. 1 virtual town hall offers public an opportunity to shape Sonoma County’s response to climate change
SANTA ROSA, CA | October 26, 2023
District 1 Supervisor Susan Gorin and District 5 Supervisor Lynda Hopkins will host a virtual town hall on Wednesday, Nov. 1 to update the public on Sonoma County’s response to climate change and to gather public input on a plan to achieve the county’s climate and resiliency goals.
The 6 p.m. town hall will take place on Zoom. Register in advance at https://bit.ly/SocoClimatetownhall.
"We are witnessing and experiencing unprecedented impacts of the climate crisis, which is why the County chose to make climate action and resiliency a pillar of our Strategic Plan,” said Supervisor Lynda Hopkins. “Addressing climate change is a collaborative effort, and we encourage the community to have their voices heard.”
“Sonoma County is focused on collaborating with the community to share what we are doing. But we need to hear from you, the public, about how best to further address these challenges that affect our whole community,” said Supervisor Gorin. “Your attendance and feedback are a critical part of creating a Climate Resilience Master Action Plan to achieve our strategic goals.”
As part of the town hall, Supervisors Gorin and Hopkins will moderate panel discussions reviewing local and regional efforts to adapt to our changing climate. The public will have opportunities to pose written questions to the panelists, including representatives from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Regional Climate Protection Authority, FireSafe Sonoma, Sonoma Ecology Center, the Building Decarbonization Coalition, and the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition.
During the forum, the county’s Climate Action & Resiliency Division will provide an overview of its efforts to develop a Climate Resilience Master Action Plan, which will lay out a path for the county to become carbon neutral, zero waste and resilient by 2030. These goals are outlined in the county’s five-year Strategic Plan, which identifies Climate Action and Resiliency as one of its five main pillars.
The town hall will conclude with a session seeking thoughts and ideas from the public and input on community needs. The public will be invited to submit questions in advance by emailing them to climate@sonoma-county.org. Attendees to the webinar also will be invited to post questions or comments in the Q&A box on Zoom. No direct verbal testimony, however, will be permitted.
