Nomination period opens Monday for November 2024 General Election

Candidate nominations open on Monday, July 15, for school, municipal and special district offices up for election in November, Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Deva Marie Proto announced today.

Registered voters in Sonoma County who are interested in running for any of the available seats must file nomination papers between July 15 and Aug. 9 in order to have their names placed on the Nov. 5 ballot. If nomination papers for an incumbent elective officer are not filed by close of business on Aug. 9, candidates other than the incumbent shall have until Aug. 14 to file for that office.

Candidates for school and special district offices, except for the North Marin Water District, must obtain and file their nomination papers with the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office located at 435 Fiscal Drive in Santa Rosa. More information about filing for school and special district offices is available by going to SoCoVotes.com and clicking on the Candidate Filing menu item on the left, calling the Candidate Services division at (707) 565-6808, or emailing rov-candidate@sonoma-county.org.

Through Aug. 14, office hours at the Registrar of Voters Office are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Candidates for municipal offices must obtain and file their nomination papers with the appropriate city/town clerk. Check with the city/town clerk for hours and other information about filing for that municipality’s offices.
