Nomination period for November 2024 General Election extended to Wednesday
SANTA ROSA, CA | August 12, 2024
Candidate nominations for select school, city and special district offices have been extended to Wednesday, Aug. 14, for any qualified person other than the incumbent(s) because one or more incumbent(s) did not file by the Aug. 9 deadline. Offices for which nominations have been extended include the following:

*These school or special district jurisdictions cross county lines. Candidates for these offices who are registered to vote in Sonoma County and wish to file an optional Statement of Qualifications in the other county’s Voter Information Guide should contact that county’s elections official:

- Mendocino County - Mendocino County Elections Division at (707) 234-6819 or mcvotes@mendocinocounty.gov.
†Although nominations for Shoreline Unified School District Area 2 have also been extended, that area is exclusively in Marin County, so registered voters in Sonoma County cannot run for that seat (see California Education Code § 5030(c)).
Candidates for all of the school and special district offices must obtain and file their nomination papers with the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office located at 435 Fiscal Drive in Santa Rosa by 5 p.m. on Aug. 14. More information about filing for school and special district offices is available by going to SoCoVotes.com and clicking on the Candidate Filing menu item on the left, calling the Candidate Services division at (707) 565-6808, or emailing rov-candidate@sonoma-county.org.
Candidates for municipal offices must obtain and file their nomination papers with the appropriate city/town clerk by end of business Aug. 14. Some cities/towns may require candidates to make an appointment. Check with the city/town clerk for hours and other information about filing for that municipality’s offices.
For a list of who has filed for offices so far, visit SoCoVotes.com, go to the Nov. 5, 2024, General Election page, and click on the List of Candidates Who Have Filed link under the “Info for Voters” heading. The list of candidates is updated at least once every one to two business days.
