New Presumptive Positive Coronavirus Case Confirmed

Sonoma County resident was on same cruise ship to Mexico as previously confirmed case

The Sonoma County Department of Health Services (DHS) today confirmed a second presumptive positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in a resident who traveled internationally on the Grand Princess (Princess Cruises) ship from San Francisco to Mexico. Both patients are in isolation rooms at a local hospital.

Tests conducted by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and in close coordination with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), County, and hospital officials led to the presumptive positive diagnosis. A presumptive positive case is defined as likely to be positive for COVID-19. The CDC will conduct another test to confirm the diagnosis.

DHS has received a list of Sonoma County residents who were on the Grand Princess Cruise and the shuttle to and from the ship and are contacting passengers to make them aware. The 14-day window of risk from these exposures will end Friday evening, March 6, 2020, and if passengers have not exhibited symptoms by then, they will be considered no at risk from the cruise ship exposure.
