Specialty Caseloads

Mental Health Caseloads

Deputy Probation Officers, in cooperation with Mental Health professionals, work with individuals who experience complex issues such as mental illness, substance abuse, unstable housing or homelessness, employment issues and limited support systems within the community. Efforts are made to stabilize living situations, monitor sobriety, and seek appropriate intervention through medication/counseling. Suitable living arrangements or placements are sought when necessary. 

Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT)

A team approach with treatment providers and/or mental health case managers, law enforcement, the Superior Court, District Attorney, Public Defender and Probation has been developed to work with individuals on these caseloads allowing for more effective intervention and promoting more independent functioning within the community. These services are cost effective in that they reduce the number of days these offenders spend revolving in and out of jail.

Domestic Violence Caseloads

These caseloads were established in conjunction with the local Domestic Violence Court as part of a team effort with local agencies to formulate effective intervention and accountability. Working with the Court, District Attorney, Public Defender, law enforcement, victim assistance, and treatment providers, Deputy Probation Officers monitor all aspects of an individual's adherence to court orders, participation in treatment, and behavior toward the victim. One of the foremost goals in working with this population is for Deputy Probation Officers to assist in breaking the cycle of violence. The goal is the development of more productive communication skills and the possibility of safe and healthy familial relationships.

Sex Offender Caseload

Deputy Probation Officers closely supervise individuals on this caseload for compliance with Court orders and involvement in necessary treatment. Working with local and state law enforcement agencies and treatment providers allow Deputy Probation Officers to provide a broad level of oversight while also monitoring the individual's participation in treatment. A combination of accountability and intervention through treatment are key aspects of working more effectively with individuals on this caseload to reduce recidivism and to promote long term compulsory life changes. 

Risk Based Supervision Caseloads

Individuals on these caseloads are classified using a static risk assessment that indicates if they are at a high, moderate or low risk for recidivism.  An assessment of the needs of individuals on these caseloads is also conducted that helps focus the interventions offered to them on the issues that directly contribute to their criminal behavior.  The principles of the risk-needs-responsivity model guide the management of these caseloads.  Equipping offenders with skills that help them avoid recidivism enhances public safety in the long term.  Additionally, offenders are monitored and swiftly held accountable for non-compliance or additional criminality, which can enhance public safety in the near term.
