Zika Virus
Testing services are provided for patients who meet certain criteria.
Methodology:
IgM serology
RT-PCR (CDC Trioplex Real-time RT-PCR assay)

Specimen Types:
*See Zika Virus Testing Criteria & Instructions Form (below) for guidance on specimen collection windows for symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.
IgM serology: 2 mLs of serum
RT-PCR:
Serum: 2 mLs
Urine: 3-5 mLs (must be accompanied by serum)
Whole blood: at least 1 mL (EDTA required, must be accompanied by serum)
CSF: at least 1 mL (must be accompanied by serum)
Amniotic fluid: at least 2 mLs of fluid (must be accompanied by serum)
Specimen Storage:
Store all specimens at 4oC.
Specimen Transport:
Transport all specimens on cold packs within 24 – 72 hours of collection.
Turn-around-time:
IgM serology: usually 7-14 days
RT-PCR: usually 1-2 days
