Dog Day Out

We're thrilled to launch a brand-new program that gives both Sonoma County visitors and local residents the chance to take a shelter dog out for a day of fun and adventure! Not only does this give our pups a much-needed break from the shelter, but it also helps us learn more about their personalities, making it easier to find their perfect forever home.

You can take your Dog Day Out companion on an outdoor adventure, such as hiking or a long walk by the ocean, visit one of the many dog friendly public places around Sonoma County, or just simply hang out at home! No matter the activity, your Dog Day Out buddy will love the opportunity to spend some quality time with you. Plus, you will be able to provide us with valuable insight into the dog’s personality outside of the shelter, which allows us to match them with the right family!

We provide everything you need for your outing, including a manual with instructions and important information, a backpack full of supplies and recommended places to visit. Please note that you’re likely to be paired with a medium to large dog, as they stand to benefit most from a day out! We will do our best to match you with a dog who fits your handling abilities and plan for the day.
