Deadline for voters to ‘cure’ ballot signature issues is March 27

Voters whose signatures were missing or mismatched on ballot envelopes for the March 2024 primary election have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 to submit completed signature “cure” forms to the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office, according to Deva Marie Proto, Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters.

Every election, county staff devote hundreds of hours to checking signatures on ballot envelopes. Each voter whose ballot envelope is missing a signature or has a signature that does not sufficiently compare to the signature(s) in that voter’s file is mailed a signature “cure” form. The form, if signed and returned to the Registrar of Voters Office before the March 27 deadline, allows the ballot to be counted and included in the final official certified election results.

Voters with a missing or challenged signature who lost or did not receive a signature “cure” form can download and print one by going to SoCoVotes.com. Click on the “Forms” option on the menu on the left, scroll down to the “Vote-by-Mail Signature Issues” heading, and click on either “Unsigned Ballot Statement” or “Signature Verification Statement” (see screenshot below). Please note that the form must be printed and signed by hand; digital signatures are not accepted.

Once printed, filled out and signed, there are four main ways that a voter can return a signature “cure” form:

• Scan it or take a picture of it and send it as an email attachment to rov-ubs@sonoma-county.org
• Fax it to (707) 565-6862
• Drop it off in person at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office during open hours (see below)
• Mail it to PO Box 11485, Santa Rosa, CA 95406 (not recommended since it must be received by March 27)

The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters office is located at 435 Fiscal Drive in Santa Rosa. Next week, the office will be open each weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, beginning April 3, office hours will revert to its normal schedule (closing at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays).
