The Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Outreach (IOLERO) was established by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in 2015. IOLERO is an independent, non-police county agency. IOLERO’s mission is to strengthen the relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the community it serves.
IOLERO is an Inspector General for the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office as defined in Government Code section 25303.7. IOLERO’s primary functions include receiving complaints against the Sheriff’s Office, auditing the work of the Internal Affairs Division, community outreach, making policy recommendations to the Sheriff’s Office, and independently investigating whistleblower claims, fatal uses of force, and in-custody deaths.
