Department of Transportation – Employer Pull Notice Program (EPN)
Most US states have programs that allow employers to request employee driver records to monitor safe driving practices and license validity. In California, the program is called the Employer Pull Notice (EPN) Program. This program differs from programs in other states because an employer receives notices of suspensions, convictions, or accidents automatically in addition to routine annual license checks. California DMV administers the program; California Highway Patrol (CHP) enforces it. Operators of commercial vehicles are required to be enrolled in the program.
Driver information is required to be kept confidential and is used only for the purpose intended. The program helps improve public safety by identifying problem drivers or, drivers without a valid license, removing them from behind the steering wheel, or providing remedial training.
To get more information on the applicability of this program for a specific County operation please contact the corresponding departmental Safety Coordinator.
