County Counsel Department
The County Counsel and attorneys of the office cannot provide legal advice to members of the public. The role of the County Counsel is to provide legal advice to the Board of Supervisors, special districts and other elected officials for matters related to the operation and management of the County and those districts.
If you need a lawyer and do not have one you can call the Lawyer Referral Service operated by the Sonoma County Bar Association at (707) 546-5297 extension 12 or online at: http://www.sonomacountybar.org.
Service of a lawsuit must be made on the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors located at 575 Administration Drive, Room 100A, and Santa Rosa, California 95403.
Lawsuits are filed by the County Counsel but you should first call Central Collections at (707) 565-2817 or online at http://www.sonoma-county.org/tax/about_centcoll.htm. The personnel there have the appropriate records and will be able to help you.
