Climate Resilience Fund
The Climate Resilience Fund (CRF), composed of $10 million, was set aside by the Board of Supervisors in May of 2021 out of PG&E settlement funds related to the 2017 fires. At the directon of the Board of Supervisors, Climate Action and Resiliency Division (CARD) staff evaluated potential County of Sonoma climate projects and made recommendations to the Board on distributing CRF funds. Projects were evaluated on multiple criteria, including greenhouse gas reductions, increases in climate adaptability and resilience, impacts on underserved and underresourced communities, and ability to leverage outside funds.
Using these recommendations from CARD staff, the Board of Supervisors has distributed roughly $9.5 million through two rounds of funding. Funded projects include:
- $100,000 to find a vendor to install Level 3 electric vehicle chargers in Park and Ride lots throughout the county.
- $100,000 to help fund the development of a Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Plan for Regional Parks.
- $300,000 to promote prescribed grazing via trainings, resources, mentorships, and workforce development.
- $303,320 for the construction and installation of rainwater catchment systems at Helen Putnam Regional Park, as well as the development of design plans for other such installations.
- $500,000 for the addition of Class II bike lanes in Sonoma Valley.
- $685,000 for installing several electric vehicle charging stations at the Sheriff’s Office, allowing the fleet to include electric patrol vehicles.
- $941,760 to install portable solar EV chargers at multiple Regional Parks locations, which can also be used as sources of backup power during emergency situations.
- $1,447,266 to support fare-free transit service for all youth riders across all three transit lines in Sonoma County for two years, and to introduce new express bus services on Sonoma County Transit.
