Libraries & Archives

The California State Archives is a division of the Office of the Secretary of State. It is a repository for the State's permanent governmental records as well as other materials documenting California history.

The Main Catalog, Picture Catalog, Braille and Talking Book Catalog, and other resources for exploring the collections of the California State Library system.

The Petaluma Museum Research Library provides books, maps and files that assist in history, genealogy, and architectural research of Petaluma and surrounding communities

The two SRJC libraries in Santa Rosa and Petaluma offer SRJC members access to a collection of over 113,000 books, 470 periodical subscriptions, and thousands of audio recordings, films and videotapes, microforms, and millions of networked electronic resources.

The Sonoma County Wine Library in Healdsburg has an archive of wine history worldwide, with a special emphasis on the history of winemaking in Sonoma County.

The Sonoma County Library's local history and genealogy materials are housed in the Annex, a building located directly behind the Central Santa Rosa Library. They include deeds, mortgages, wills and probate records, assessments of property, voter registrations, oaths of office, surveys, maps, corporation records, business licenses, obituaries, newspapers, census records and collections of photographs.

The Jean and Charles Schulz Information Center is located on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park. This library has a searchable on-line catalog (called "Snoopy") and offers myriad resources for local historical research.
