Apostilles
The California Secretary of State provides authentication of public official signatures on documents to be used outside the United States of America. The country of destination determines whether the authentication is an Apostille or Certification.
Birth Certificates
The County Clerk has Birth Certificates from 10/14/1855. To apply for birth records, you must complete the sworn statement included with the Application for Certified Copy of Birth Record and you must sign the sworn statement under penalty of perjury.
California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) – Fish & Wildlife Filings
The Sonoma County Clerk charges the $50 processing fee for all California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) filings. For more information on CEQA and current CEQA filing fees, please visit California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Death Certificates
The County Clerk has Death Certificates from 1873 to the present. Certified Copies of Death Certificates can be requested in person, online or by mail.

A certified copy of the registered license as proof of marriage may be required for legal purposes. The Sonoma County Clerk can only provide certified copies of marriage certificates that were issued in the County of Sonoma.
Marriage Licenses
A marriage license must be purchased prior to the marriage ceremony and may be obtained at the County Clerk's Office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Members of the public wishing to perform a legal registration should appear in the County Clerk's Office between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
The County Clerk has birth, death and marriage records for events occurring in Sonoma County. We maintain the following documents: Birth Certificates from 10/14/1855, Death Certificates from 1873 to the present, and Marriage Certificates from 09/23/1846 to the present.
