Ag + Open Space and Sonoma Water purchase Mark West Wikiup Preserve for conservation
Today, Ag + Open Space and Sonoma Water are announcing the purchase of the 30-acre Mark West Wikiup Preserve in the Larkfield-Wikiup area of Santa Rosa. Home to half-a-mile of Mark West Creek, oaks, riparian habitat, and grassy open space in a residential neighborhood, conservation of this property will enable Sonoma Water to offer public access to the preserve. Ag + Open Space funded Sonoma Water’s purchase of this property from the Jackson family for $5.1 million and acquired a conservation easement and recreation covenant over the property to ensure that the natural and recreational resource of the preserve will be conserved forever. Board of Supervisors approves $1 million in vegetation management grants to reduce wildfire risk
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today approved $1 million in grants for nine projects that will protect residents from wildfires by creating fuel breaks and removing vegetation along evacuation routes in fire-prone landscapes. Read full story
HOME ARP Substantial Amendment and Hearing Notice
The Sonoma County Community Development Commission (Commission) proposes to amend the Sonoma County FY 2021-22 Annual Action Plan by modifying the Sonoma County HOME- ARP Allocation Plan (Allocation Plan). The Allocation Plan was adopted by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on March 14, 2023, and is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the use of $2,991,512 of federal HOME-ARP grant funds. Board of Supervisors authorizes storm culvert, runway repair at Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today approved plans to refurbish a section of runway pavement and replace a deteriorating culvert at Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport. County officials have been monitoring the runway following an annual inspection by the Federal Aviation Administration, which identified the need for repairs. In response, airport officials took immediate proactive measures to seal the affected areas to prevent further deterioration. Read full story

Next month, beginning June 11th, the county will commence Budget Hearings for the Fiscal Year 2024/25. Like the State of California, though not to the same extreme, the county is working with far more limited resources this upcoming Fiscal Year than recent years prior. One-time funding the county received from the state and federal government amidst the COVID-19 pandemic has largely come to an end. Read full story

Notice of Intent to Request Release of Funds
On or about May 24, 2024 the Sonoma County Community Development Commission (SCCDC) will submit a request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the release of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) as authorized by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, Title 1 (42 U.S.C. 5301 et seq.), to undertake a project known as L and M Village Parking Lot Rehabilitation proposed by the City of Healdsburg for the purpose of repaving the parking lot of an existing transitional housing site located at 70 Healdsburg Avenue, Healdsburg, CA 95448 with estimated funding of $200,000 of CDBG funds.
