Sonoma County bans sale of e-cigarettes and flavored tobacco in unincorporated areas
SANTA ROSA, CA | May 14, 2024
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today voted to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products and e-cigarettes in unincorporated areas of the county. The changes to the county’s tobacco retail ordinance are in response to public health data that show e-cigarettes and flavored tobacco use increasing among high school-aged youth.
Tobacco Retailer License Renewal 2024-2025
Tobacco retailers in unincorporated Sonoma County, Town of Windsor and City of Petaluma must obtain an annual Tobacco Retail License (TRL) from the Sonoma County Department of Health Services in order to sell tobacco products.
The application renewal period for 2024-25 licenses (valid from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025) is now open. Renewal applications and fees are due by July 1, 2024.
If you are a tobacco retailer in Healdsburg, Sebastopol or Sonoma, please contact those cities directly with any questions about tobacco retail license renewal. The Department of Health Services does NOT administer those licenses.

Local Tobacco Retail Licensing and Regulations
Prospective tobacco retailer licensees should consult with the Sonoma County Department of Health Services before applying for a state tobacco retailer license, to determine how to comply with local licensing requirements.
